Bayanundur soum No.15 School in Mongolia

Tree planting activities

Located in Northern Mongolia’s Orhon Province, the school is in an area dotted with GER (Mongolian nomadic mobile homes).  It is a relatively new school built in 2015. When the school was first built, there was no greenery in the surrounding area, and through the Children’s Forest Program, over 250 trees have been planted to date, including maples and lilacs.  Not only have the children themselves been responsible for maintenance and management but they have also provided environmental education on the importance of greenery.

In FY 2021, we planted 100 seedlings of bird cherry trees, the fruit of which can be eaten, for use in school lunch, and distributed handmade masks to 200 students who were unable to prepare masks for financial reasons. In recognition of the activities that have continued since 2015, the school also received a commendation from the province as a school that has been actively involved in greening activities. The principal of the school said, “I am very happy that the school, which had only buildings, is now decorated with trees thanks to OISCA’s activities. The children also take good care of the seedlings. I am very grateful to all the supporters, “
