Promising community leaders are growing
Assumption AUP School is located along the national road 212 in Bathery, Wayanad District. The school has participated in CFP because teachers wanted to teach children knowledge of flowers and trees.
The children are, not only getting knowledge on trees, but learning many things such as how to plant by tree species and way of taking care of them through practical activities. The children are enjoying, in addition to tree planting, studies on organic agriculture and making a school vegetable garden.
Currently, 141 different species of herbs and vegetables have been planted on the premises of the school. A 12-years old student said: “Agriculture is our culture and learning from nature is more interesting than regular classes”. The school is taking part in CFP since 2016 and in the heart and mind of the children love for nature and respect for greenery has been fostered little by little.
In the future, with the school as a starting point, we would like to expand the activity for teaching the importance of biodiversity to the neighboring areas.
