Started activities getting the understanding of the community
Kalabogi Sunderban is located in the southwestern part of Bangladesh. Before the start of activities, there was no greenery and the environmental awareness of students and teachers was not high. In this situation, OISCA coordinators and the school principal had a meeting and also a briefing was held for teachers and parents in order to smoothly carry out the activities.
After getting the understanding from the school and the community, the activities were started. They planted 250 seedlings of various species aiming at developing pleasant environment and hoping to contribute even a little to the conservation of the local biodiversity. At the start, the students and teachers had a low interest, but after tackling together, have changed their mind. A teacher who participated in the activities said: “we are all enjoying tree planting like a festival, but the important thing is to take care of seedlings. Each and every one plant seedlings and take care well throughout the year. This is our motto of activities.” In the future, we plan to plant palm trees which may serve as lightning rods for mitigating the damage to buildings and people by thunder that has become a problem in recent years.”
