Children’s awareness grows with trees
Toul Meas Primary School is located in a rural area about 38km away from the capital of Kampong Cham Province. The School had wide schoolyard with fertile soil, but there was no tree and no shade for children to rest. The school principal wanted to plant trees with students and promote awareness program for environment conservation. That is why the CFP activity was started in this school.
The first activity was tree planting. Children
planted 350 seedlings such as Teak(Tectonagrandis) and Rose wood (Dalbergia cochinchinensis). After planting, they kept on taking care of the trees by watering and weeding with everyone’s cooperation. Moreover, OISCA held seminars regarding the separating of garbage & recycling, and put some garbage bins in the school. Mr. Sorn Phally, a librarian, said“I often see my students pick up some garbage to put in the bins and bring them to the trash dump. In addition, children came to always wash hands before getting into library which they never did before. After participating in the CFP activities,
they seem to change their minds toward hygiene and cleanliness”.
From now on, they are going to keep on taking care of the
trees and planting more trees for making a big school forest.
