Aiming to develop

green FURUSATO

This school is a large school with 1,200 students located in the eastern part of Xilinhot City, Inner Mongolia. Since the school is for the ethnic Mongolian people, the students are mostly children of nomads and very sensitive about the desertification problem which is directly related with their family business. The CFP activities started in 2014 in the strong hope of improving the local environment. In the past, the activities have focused on environmental education such as seminars, but in 2016, they planted shrub named Salix psammophila effective for preventing dust.

Yellow sand which has also become a problem in Japan originates from the Gobi Desert of Inner Mongolia and caused by the progress of desertification due to excessive grazing and deforestation. In the future, they intend to understand the current situation and challenge of desertification and further expand the scope of CFP activities by promoting tree planting for anti-desertification. In 2017, they plan to continue tree planting and carry out environmental education for fostering children who would be able to actively work aiming at the development of green FURUSATO.
